What Is Your Social Media Strategy?
“Strategy is the highest level of a plan”
When it comes to running your business, you need to have a plan. From securing initial funding to managing your day to day operations, running a business without a plan or strategy is a straight path to spinning your wheels. As the great Yogi Berra said, “If you don’t know where you are going, you’ll end up someplace else.”
The same applies to your social media presence. It’s one thing to be posting whatever pops into your mind at any given moment, but strategic posting with a plan behind it can elevate your game. There will be slight differences in your strategy based on the platform you’re using. For example, hashtags on Instagram, the target audience on Facebook, and other variations. Also, keep in mind that social media for businesses benefits greatly from paid options. Boosting posts, and running ads can help you reach your audience more quickly and easily!
So, the question becomes: How does one create a strategy?
As with anything, your strategy needs to start with the basics. What is the purpose of your social media presence? Gone are the days of having a Facebook page “Because I need one.” Whether you’re an established brand wanting to connect with their customers, or a brand new business needing to increase their brand recognition, these are things that social media can help with.
Now that you have decided on your purpose, it’s time to discuss your goals. Here at Connetik, we believe very strongly in S.M.A.R.T. goals. A goal that is attainable with some work, easy to track, and bound by time pushes you to work hard to achieve them. Saying “I want more followers” isn’t enough. “I want 20% more followers within three months” is.
During your business plan, you likely discussed your target audience, the people that you want to reach. Using that information, you can build a social media campaign targetted specifically to them. When you can speak their language, you have a better chance of making a connection.
One of the more important things to consider is your posting schedule. While posting a few times a week is ideal, consistency is the ultimate goal. Consider the time you have available, and the goals that you’ve set, and build your schedule around that. Consistently posting once a week is better than posting six times one week, and then ignoring your feed for two months.
Building a social media strategy isn’t easy. It takes some time to dig into your wants and needs for your business and to come out the other end with a plan in place. We can help.
