Many companies are quick to realize thatthey need to have an online presence; however, few know what to dowith their website once they have it built and launched. Unfortunately, a lot of these sites are packed with potential butmany never see the light of day (or light of a monitor!), gatheringdust somewhere in cyberspace.
Tip #1: Determine your website's objectives.
An objective is simply a goal. What is itthat you want your website to do for your business? You may havemany goals, so list them out in order of priority. The key here isto make sure your objectives are specific and measurable soit’s easy to tell if / when you achieve them. For instance,rather then saying "I want to increase sales for my business" yourobjective could be "to generate 8 qualified leads permonth".
Tip #2: Make sureyou have "calls to action" on your site to support yourobjectives.
If you want someone to view your monthlyspecials online, make it easy for them to do this. Calls to actioncan be graphical ads or even links within your web copy. Avoidusing the text link "Click Here" in the content of your site,however. The user has to read the entire paragraph (which they mostlikely won't) prior to it to understand why they should "ClickThere". Be more descriptive with your text links like "Download ourlatest price list" or "View our inventory". These links will allowyour users to quickly understand what the link is for.
Tip #3: Make sure youtrack the traffic that is going to your website.
Google Analytics is a great tool (it's freeto use!) that can give you vast amounts of insight as to how peopleare using your website. Once you see the browsing habits of yourvisitors, you can then make slight adjustments to your site toincrease its effectiveness.
